NY State Boater Safety Certificate Course
Part 1: Saturday, March 2, 12:00 PM-4:00 PM
Part 2: Saturday, March 9, 12:00 PM-4:00 PM
The NY State Boater Course covers the fundamentals of safe boating operation and is approved by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). A Boating Safety Certificate is required by law in NY for anyone born after May 1, 1996 to operate a motorboat and for all operators of a personal watercraft (PWC). This is a 2 part course with 8 hours of classroom instruction. You must attend both parts and pass a closed book exam. Textbooks are provided. Children must be at least 10 years of age to enroll. After successful completion a permanent Boater Safety Certificate is issued by New York State Parks. Students under the age of 18 will receive their certificate free from NYSP. Those 18 or older in addition to the class fee, pay NYS Parks a $10.00 fee for their permanent certificate. Fee: $25 per person. Payable by check at first class. Instructor is Captain John Johnston, a U.S.Coast Guard licensed Captain and certified Marina Pro powerboat instructor for National Safe Boating Council and US POWERBOATING.

English as a New Language

Free English as a New Language tutoring. Build your skills in speaking, vocabulary, reading, and writing in friendly, one-on-one or small group sessions. Materials are provided. Children can attend a story hour at the library at the same time. Presented by Learning Links of Fairport. Limited to 15 participants. Registration is recommended but not required.

Citizenship Classes
Tuesdays, March 5-April 30, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Free class to prepare adults for the United States Citizenship Test. Instruction is given in U.S. history, reading, writing, and vocabulary needed to pass the test. Materials are provided. Presented by Learning Links for Fairport. Limited to 15 participants. Registration is recommended but not required.

Managing Your Retirement: Your Best Retirement Investment Strategies

Ideal for pre-retirees and those currently retired. The important question is not how much money do I have now? What is important are the actions you take to meet your personal retirement goals. We look at a portfolio mix in the form of a triangle, balancing Safety, Income and Growth to manage retirement income needs. In this seminar, we will review how income sources (pensions, social security, investments, 401(k)s, annuities, real estate etc), work together to meet all three needs. AARP Safety Driving Course

A two part classroom driver refresher course designed for drivers aged 50 and over. Cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non members, payable at the first class (only checks accepted) Must have a valid New York state license. Drivers need to attend both classes to get certificate.

Lives of Passion: Doctor George Dean & Louise Griswold Dean

The lives of Dr. George Adgate Dean (1904-1970) and his wife Louise Griswold Dean (1905-1995) are wonderfully represented in a significant collection of documents, photographs and other items recently donated by the family to the Perinton Historical Society. Each selflessly served their adopted hometown, the Fairport-Perinton community, in many capacities. Both were also active in the Perinton Historical Society as members of the PHS Executive Committee. An added highlight of the presentation will be the inclusion of many photographs, often through the lens of Louise Dean. Many of these photographs will be viewed for the first time publicly in this presentation, and will include images from this community, from the 1930s through the 1950s. Presented by Perinton Town Historian Bill Poray. Registration required.

Simple Strategies for Emotional Wellness

Several sites contain fossil imprints which are famous for exceptional preservation of soft parts of animals from the Cambrian period.
