Compass and Grid: Abstract Geometric Paintings by Geoffrey Gilbert

When: Through April 8

Geoffrey Gilbert presents a series of concentric-circle or “target” paintings made in 2021-2022 that can be seen as responsive to—or perhaps in dialogue with—the circle paintings produced in the 1950s by Kenneth Noland, the well-known American color field artist. Gilbert shares, “Like Noland’s, my circle paintings explore color relationships, tonal shifts, and the material qualities of paint applied to various surfaces. I will also be showing a number of grid-based paintings of varying size, palette, and style.”
