Families Belong Together rally set for Saturday

by

Saturday is the Families Belong Together day of action against the Trump administration's zero-tolerance immigration policy, and there will be a protest at Washington Square Park.

The Rochester rally begins at 3 p.m., and speakers will talk about Trump's recent executive order to stop the separation of migrant families detained by immigration officials, local organizations that work on behalf of undocumented immigrants, and what work is needed to advance immigrants' rights. More information can be found on the Facebook event here.

The local event is being organized by a group of organizations that focus on immigrants' rights, workers' rights, and social justice issues. The group includes Alianza Agricola, Indivisible Rochester, Action Together, the Worker Justice Center of New York, the Rochester Rapid Response Network, and The New York Immigrant Coalition.

Families Belong Together (Familias Unidas, No Divididas) is a group that began holding events and rallies around the country in early June. It opposes the administration's policy of separating children from their parents when immigration officers  detain them at or near border crossings. The group has set Saturday, June 30, as a national day of action, and there are hundreds of protests planned around the country.
